Browsing the Matomo UI

The Matomo UI is the most visible part of Matomo and probably where most marketers will spend their time, but note that Matomo is far more than just a simple UI. let's see how this UI is organized.

  • Dashboard.
  • Visitors.
  • Behaviour.
  • Acquistion.
  • Goals.

Dashboard

Dashboards are nothing more than summaries of all the detailed reports you will find within the Visitors, Behaviour, Acquisition and Goals categories. The only thing you have to know is that some widgets (special features) are only available on the dashboard and nowhere else.

Visitors

In Visitors you will find all the data which are dealing with the caraceristics of your visitors: identity card (picture, first name, family name), technologies they are using, their locations, the time of their visits... So it is everything which describe an individual.

Behaviour

It is about how they interact with your website/app. So every action they perform is listed there.

Acquisition

This category is about the referrers so the communication channel which brought you the traffic. So this is where you will know which search engine brough you the more visits and how good the quality of this traffic was.

Goals

Goals is kind of a special category in which you are indicating which interaction you are giving the most value to. Once goals are defined all the categories listed above will be filled in with additionnal data.

Exercises

It is important to feel at ease with a UI, as an exercise try to find the following reports within the Matomo UI:
